December 5th Chirstmas Party
Round Table Representatives (RTR)/Deaf Community Center (DCC):
In the past year, RTR/Deaf Community Center has been working hard to bring a viable center to the Deaf and
Hard of Hearing community. I am proudly to share this with you, starting January 5th to May 29th; RTR/Deaf Community Center will be open to the community from Monday to Friday from 9amto 4pm. This would not be possible if it wasn’t for the volunteers who are sacrificing their personal time to serve you.
Beyond our expectation, the open space meeting room is already booked on Saturday and Sunday for 2009. We have first and last Saturday available for those who wish to use for social event, workshop, support group, or private use. Of course, weeknight is available on certain days.
We will have a new website by end of January. When the website is ready to be unveiled, we will notify you.
We disappointed a lot of community members with rescheduling of Deafestival which I am proud to say it is
on track for Saturday, August 29th, 2009 at KirkwoodCommunity Center. We will announce details of the event by end of February 2009.
We continue to bring caption media to select theaters and continue to advocate so every DVDmovie has
caption or English subtitle. This would not have been done without the wonderful support and fine individuals who serves on Caption Media committee.
How can you help DeafCommunity Center? One way is to be part of Schnucks E-Scrip program, which contribute a percentage to DCC. The money will be use to support the service we have in place: Leadership Training, Advocacy, Information and Referral, Community Outreach, and Arts and Entertainment. You can pick up the E-Scrip card at our office along with instruction how to activate your card. Speaking of fundraising, we have lot several fundraising events in plan for 2009. Our goal is to unite the community together by social interaction.
For more information about RTR/Deaf Community Center, I encourage you to stop by the office and gather the information. We are located next to St. Louis Society for the Blind, 8764 Manchester Road, Suite 201, Brentwood, MO 63141.
